Digital Learning for Teens

Teen and Young Adult Volunteer Opportunities at the Library

Looking for a way to fill some community service hours, get ready for your career or just help out at the library?

Young Adult Library Leaders (Y.A.L.L.)

Y.A.L.L. is a great way to gain leadership experience that supports your local library. Through Y.A.L.L., you can help out in a variety of ways, whether it's by running programs, making social media posts, creating book displays and recommendation lists, designing flyers and graphics, or trying out your ideas for the library.

TeenScene

A panoramic photo of TeenScene, the library's new teen area. On the left is a wall-mounted desk with laptops; directly to the front is a low table surrounded by chairs, in front of a corner with padded, modular couch chairs. In the far right corner you can see a toaster oven station nearby a television with a gaming station set-up. And immediately to the right is the welcome desk, behind which you can see the glass wall that looks into the YA book nook.

TeenScene is our new room of the library designed just for teens. You can find it by the second-floor, Lake Avenue entrance.

TeenScene Open Hours

For the 2023-2024 School Year

Tuesdays through Thursdays

1-6 p.m.

Schedule changes: Any changes from TeenScene's posted schedule will be posted on the door of the space and to RacineLibrary.info/hours-locations.

Stop in anytime during our open hours, or join us for any of our programs to check out the new space.

TeenScene Rules of Use

  1. Weird is cool. Wild is not.
This isn't a gym, a wrestling ring, or a parkour course. This is a library, so keep it chill.
  2. Respect the room.
Leave it looking at least as good as the way you found it, and go easy on the library's stuff.
  3. Keep it PG-13.
That goes for language and behavior. You're not little kids, but this is a shared space.
  4. Don't be a jerk.
It's that simple. If it's not working, you might need to leave for the day. Eat, sleep, and come back and try again. We'll see you then!

What is TeenScene for?

TeenScene is a space for you to be yourself and become yourself. No adults are allowed (with the exception of library staff), so you're free to use the space your way and even suggest ideas for it.

Things you can do in TeenScene include:

  • Do homework or work on projects
  • Use our computers — we have four Windows laptops and a Mac desktop
  • Do arts and crafts — we have polymer clay, painting supplies, coloring tools, diamond dot art kits and more
  • Hang out with friends (or make some new ones)
  • Play video games — we have an Xbox S Series, a Nintendo Switch, a Wii and an Infinity Game Table
  • Grab a book from the YA nook to read
  • Perform karaoke

Of course, how you use it is up to you. It's your space, so come on in.
