What equipment is available in the studio?
Equipment available in the booth:
- Mac with Logic Pro software
- Music keyboard
- Speakers
- Headphones
- Microphone
Available on request:
- Windows laptops with Windows Voice Recorder
- Additional microphones for use with a computer
What do I need to bring to my session?
You will at least need your own flash, hard or cloud drive to save your recordings to. Please keep in mind that anything saved to the library’s computers will be deleted at the end of the day. You are also welcome to bring your own computer if you prefer.
How many people can use the studio?
The studio is fairly small, so it's ideal for one person to use. Two people could fit, but it would be tight.
Can beginners use the studio?
This studio might not be the best fit for beginners. The Innovation Lab’s staff aren’t specialized in recording, so while we can offer basic computer help during your visit, we can’t help with recording-specific questions.
Where can I learn more about recording?
To learn more about recording before your visit, we recommend using the library’s free LinkedIn Learning access to take a course on Logic Pro or other subjects related to recording.

Who is Jessica MacPhail?
Jessica MacPhail led the Racine Public Library as its executive director for more than two decades until her retirement in 2020. During her tenure, she helped guide the library — and libraries throughout Wisconsin — into increasingly inclusive, community-minded institutions. As Jessica is an avid fan of music (especially the Rolling Stones), the library’s board of directors dedicated the audio and podcasting studio to her.
