Learn a new language for free
We’re excited to share the launch of Mango Languages, an online language learning platform. This user-friendly app makes language learning fun and easy for all ages. It offers 70+ languages and dialects, including Spanish, French, Mandarin, ASL, a selection of endangered indigenous languages, a language-learning video series for kids called Little Pim, English courses for over 20 languages, and much more. This service is available for free to all Racine Public Library and Prairie Lakes Library System cardholders.
Mango Languages replaces Transparent Language Online, which expired in January 2025.
How to Get Started with Mango
- Visit RacineLibrary.info/mango-signup, and use your library card number to sign up.
- Pick a language.
- Start learning!

How Mango Languages Helps
Helpful features:
- A personal learning experience: The app uses algorithms to adapt a custom experience for your learning style.
- Vocabulary lists: Users can create and sort their own vocabulary lists.
- Daily review: The app reviews your vocab at key times through spaced repetition software to help you commit words to memory.
Your access to Mango Languages also includes American Sign Language lessons through ASL Inside, and immersive language-learning videos for kids through Little Pim.
Little Pim
Little Pim, brought to you by Mango Languages, can be used on computers and mobile devices. You just need your library card to sign in and start learning. Designed for ages 0-5, Little Pim teaches language in a way that builds on a child’s natural love of play using vibrant animation and short video lessons.
To start using Little Pim:
- Log into your Mango Languages profile.
- Choose one of the 12 Little Pim languages.
- Depending on your device:
- On computer: Click “Explore” in the black menu at the top.
- On mobile: Click “Little Pim” in the black menu at the bottom.
- Choose a lesson, and start learning.
ASL Inside
Mango Languages has partnered with ASL Inside, a leading American Sign Language (ASL)-learning platform, to offer you free access to ASL lessons.
Features:
- Self-paced courses to fit your learning speed.
- The Magic Mirror feature, which gives visual examples of signing to train your accuracy.
- Multiple signing models to share a variety of ASL accents with you.
- Practical lessons to quickly teach you basic ASL conversation skills.
- Content including cultural and grammar notes, vocabulary, and auto-graded reviews.

For e-books, audiobooks and digital magazines, check out the language-learning selection in Wisconsin’s Digital Library (or its app, Libby).
Duolingo
Duolingo is a free language-learning website and app. The software offers 85 different languages in 24 languages, all for free. It also includes a digital language proficiency assessment exam for paid users.
BBC Languages
BBC Languages is a language-learning resource for 40 different languages. It is available to the general public at no cost. The website is archived, so no new content is being added.
