What is virtual reality (VR)?

When you wear our VR headset, a screen inside shows you a panoramic view of the world that makes you feel like you’re really there. The headset tracks your movement so that when you move in real life, you move through the virtual world. Using the handheld controllers, you can interact with the scene you’re in. This technology allows you to visit limitless worlds and games.

What is augmented reality (AR)?

With AR, you view your surroundings through a screen that can display information, characters, objects and more to enhance what you see around you. This is the same technology that you see in selfie filters, interior decorating apps and games like Pokémon GO. In the library, you can use AR by wearing a headset through which you can explore city maps, decorate your surroundings, fight enemies and more.

How can I explore virtual and augmented reality at the library?

Stop by during one of the Innovation Lab’s open sessions or virtual and augmented reality programs. This service is free and available to community members of all ages. Headsets and controllers are wiped down and sanitized after each patron’s use.

We can host VR sessions for up to 20 patrons at a time. Only one person at a time can be in an AR session.
