Introducing hoopla to the Racine Public Library

We’re excited to share that hoopla has joined the Racine Public Library’s offerings for patrons. hoopla is a platform where you can stream and access audiobooks, e-books, comics, graphic novels, movies, television episodes, music albums and BingePasses, available in 10 different languages. (A BingePass is a group of titles that you can access in one single download for one week at a time.)

hoopla currently offers more than one million titles that you can enjoy whenever you want, and new titles are added every week. All content is ad-free and completely free to access with your library card.

How do I use hoopla?

Register for a hoopla account, and enter your library card and PIN. Once you’re in, just find the content you want, and borrow it! While you can only borrow five titles a month, all titles are unlimited and available immediately. This means you never have to place holds or wait for an item to be returned to enjoy what you’re looking for.

Your borrowing limit means that you can pick up to five titles each month (total — not at once). Unused borrows do not roll over to the next month, but your limit will start over on the first of each month.

hoopla also has a kids-only mode for those 12 and under. When you press the kids-only button, hoopla will only show age-appropriate content until you press the button again or log out.

How long can I borrow titles for?

While borrowing times vary depending on the publisher, titles are usually available for the following amounts of time.

  • Videos: 3 days
  • Music and BingePasses: 7 days
  • Books and comics: 21 days

After your time is up, titles will automatically be returned. Just like checking out anything else from the Racine Public Library, there won’t be any fines on the titles you borrow. While renewals are available, renewing a title will count as an additional download for the month.

What devices can I use hoopla on?

hoopla can be used on the following platforms:

  • Desktop website. Content will be accessed online-only — titles cannot be downloaded. Works on Safari, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Google Chrome and Chromebooks. Linux is not currently supported.
  • iOS, Android or Kindle Fire app, including iOS CarPlay and Android Auto. Content can be accessed online or downloaded to your device. Kindle Paperwhite and similar devices are not currently supported.
  • Apple TV, Fire TV, Roku and Android TV. Fire TV Cube and smart TVs are not currently supported.
  • Chromecast.

Note that downloads of individual titles are unable to be transferred to other devices or programs, and they won’t stay on your app after your time with the title is up.

You can install hoopla on as many devices as you want, but you can only open your account on one device at a time.
