What's the difference between a table and the different vehicles?

A Reference Table is ideal for indoor events or outdoor events around the city. The Reference Tables are a great option for focused, one-on-one engagement with your attendees where we can answer questions about programs for different age groups, free online tools, and other library resources.

The Bookmobile holds mostly books, as well as some multimedia items like movies, TV shows, and video games. It offers free Wi-Fi.

The Techmobile is ideal for outdoor events with large attendance. The Techmobile provides hands-on exploration of digital resources like 3D printing, robotics and more. The Techmobile can offer a selection of books and other items for check-out, especially STEAM-related books and items. It also has tech you can try out when you come onboard, including 3D printers and laser engravers. It offers free Wi-Fi.

The Book Bikes are ideal for outdoor events in downtown Racine during the warmer months. Book Bikes are great for focused, one-on-one engagement with your attendees, such as to share information about library classes, resources and apps. Book Bikes come equipped with a selection of books, magazines, and smaller items for check-out.

All vehicles can bring specially requested books and items onboard for pop-ups.

Where can I see the vehicles' availability?

The Bookmobile is available outside of its normally scheduled stops. We can’t typically take it off its route, but we may consider it for major community events.

The other vehicles don’t have set schedules, but you can browse our calendar for a sense of when we’re popping up at locations other than the Bookmobile’s normal schedule.

What types of activities can the library do for its pop-ups?

The most common activities we offer would be a Techmobile visit to do demonstrations of 3D printers and laser engravers or teach coding and technology classes.

Other than that, any programs or services we do out of the library building can be done on our Library GO! vehicles, depending on staff availability. Storytimes, technology demonstrations, gaming labs, crafting sessions, or anything else that you might see throughout our website or on our calendar are up for consideration, but they can be a bit trickier to schedule, so ask as far in advance as you can for services like these.

Keep in mind that the Bookmobile and Techmobile have Wi-Fi, but the book bikes don’t, so one of the mobile libraries will need to be there if you’re looking for something that involves a strong internet connection.

Can the Library GO! vehicles bring specific books or items to my location?

Yes! Include any specifics you’re interested in in the form above. We can bring anything we have on our catalog, but keep in mind that what we can bring will be limited by what’s already been checked out or placed on hold. That means it’s easier to work with general themes like “board games” or “mystery books” than specific titles, especially if those titles are frequently borrowed. However, the farther in advance you ask, the easier it is for us to meet more specific requests.
