The three themes will be “Dig into Reading” for children birth through fifth grade, “Reading Moves You Through Time and Space” for teens in 6^th – 12^th grade, and  adults will be having a “Summer in Downton Abbey” ©^BBC.

We’ll be kicking off Adult Summer Programming on June 5^th with an English Tea at 5:30 pm in the Adult Services Department. Join us in costume (optional) and enjoy tea, scones and finger sandwiches as we will be watching the first episode of BBC’s hit TV Series that begins just before World War I. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 262.636.9217. We will continue through the series every Wednesday from 6-8 pm in the Adult Services Department.

On June 21^st from 5 – 10 pm we will be hosting a Teen Lock-In to kick off the Teen Summer Reading Program (grades 6 – 12). We will be hosting activities centered on the Dr. Who series, including a photo booth, costume contest and pizza. Come dressed as your favorite character from the show and be entered into the costume contest. In person registration is required. Please register at the Youth Services Desk.

This summer’s Storywagon series begins on June 20^th and will feature “Creepy Crawly Zoo.” There will be two performances one at 10 am and another at 1:30 pm. The other performances will be  June 27^th the Puppet Story Theater, July 11^th sing and dance with Duke Otherwise, and July 18^th  Magician Scott Obermann.

The Library’s Summer Storytime session begins on June 18^th and runs through July 24^th. They will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 am in the Youth Services Department. Open play time will be held right after storytimes in the Peg Martin Room. If you have any questions about storytimes please call 262.636.9245.

On Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25, 2013, the Racine Public Library, including the Mobile Library, will be closed due to the City of Racine’s mandatory furlough days and the impact of the decrease in library funding. Closing both Friday and Saturday, 20% of the library’s weekly hours open, is necessary to comply with the 20% reduction in staffing that week, since the library will be unable to maintain sufficient staffing levels to stay open.

During the furlough days, May 24 and May 25, the library’s website will not be available.  Books and other materials cannot be collected from the book drops during those days. To avoid possible damage or loss, please do not try to put materials in the book drops on Friday, May 24 or Saturday, May 25.

Services will be restored on Sunday, May 26 when the furlough days are over. The library’s website will be available just after midnight on Sunday. Daily collection from the book drops will resume Sunday, May 26. No materials will be due those two days, so no fines will be charged.

We deeply regret the inconvenience this will cause.

The After School Math Club will be facilitated by Sandeep Reddy (9^th grade), a Hilpert Scholar from the Prairie School. Featuring math enrichment activities, new problem-solving techniques and homework tutoring, the Club provides a place for students to learn and share with fellow math students.
