How Gifts and Memorials are Used
Gifts of any amount help expand and improve library service to the community.
Gifts supplement the library’s budget; they are not used to replace tax dollars.
Gifts may be used:
- to purchase books, periodicals, DVDs, CDs, and other library materials
- to purchase equipment
- to purchase materials used to provide a service to the public
- to provide adult and children’s programs
- to provide income for the support of the library through investments
Expending the income or principal of invested funds requires a vote of the library’s Board of Trustees.
Recognition of Gifts
Acknowledgment plates are
-inserted in books
-attached to audiovisual materials
-affixed to equipment or furniture
Signs are posted when gift money funds
a special collection.
News releases and promotional flyers include donors’ names when funds support library programming.
Donors are listed in the library’s newsletter and on the web site in the month following the donation.
Gifts made in honor or in memory of someone will be acknowledged to them or their family unless you ask to remain anonymous.

Gifts Can Serve Several Purposes
A civic service: A donation to the library is a way to say thank you for excellent service or to show your appreciation for this community resource. Your thoughtfulness will benefit the entire community.
A lasting tribute: Gifts which honor a person, a group, or a particular milestone are a thoughtful way of helping the Racine Public Library grow. These donations are used to increase the resources available to the community.
A suitable memorial: Memorial gifts remember a friend or a loved one. They enable Racine Public Library to continue to grow and better serve the community. These gifts are usually smaller and often designated for a specific purpose.
Another purpose for your larger gift can be A thoughtful bequest : Gifts can be made to either the Racine Public Library or the Racine Public Library Foundation, Inc. through your will or trust instruments. A gift of this type can live on and enrich the lives of others for many future years.
