Spanish Language Collection
The library has books, magazines, pamphlets, videos and DVDs in Spanish for children, teens and adults.

In the Adult Services Department, all Spanish language materials are shelved together in an area near the fiction. Videos and DVDs originally filmed in Spanish are shelved in the collection, but many DVDs in the English language collection also have a Spanish language soundtrack.

In the Youth Services Department, Spanish language fiction, picture books and nonfiction are shelved together at 460 in the general nonfiction collection. Youth Services also has some popular videos dubbed in Spanish, and nearly all of the juvenile DVDs allow you to either change the language to Spanish or to use Spanish subtitles.

Rosetta Stone
The Rosetta Stone is a computer-based program for Spanish speakers who are learning English. It includes an interactive component to help improve pronunciation.

Spanish Language Interface on Public Computers
The interface on 13 of the computers in the Adult Services department and two in the Youth Services Department can be changed to Spanish, and the Microsoft Office software programs on these computers can also be used in Spanish.

All the public SHARE Catalog computers have a link on the homepage to change the catalog interface to Spanish.

Other Foreign Language Interfaces on Public Computers
On 13 of the computers in the Adult Services Department and 2 in the Youth Services Department, you can change the interface and the Microsoft Office programs to any of 23 languages. These computers also include an on-screen keyboard that facilitates typing accented letters used in foreign languages.

Films in Foreign Languages
The Adult Services Department carries foreign films in VHS and DVD, which are in the original languages with English subtitles. Use the search term “foreign films” when searching the SHARE catalog to locate these films.

Most of the DVDs, in both the Adult Services Department and Youth Services Department, have a feature which allows you to change the language to other languages—most often, Spanish or French.

Learning Foreign Languages
Adult Services and Youth Services both carry books and audiobooks (tape and compact disc) for learning foreign languages, as well as videotapes and DVDs for learning foreign languages.

If we do not carry materials for the language you wish to learn, we can borrow them for you from other libraries via interlibrary loan.

Borrowing Foreign Language Materials
If you are looking for books or other materials produced in foreign languages, we can try to borrow them for you from other libraries via interlibrary loan.

Translators List
The library maintains a list of people in Racine who speak and/or read foreign languages, and who are willing to assist others with brief translations. The library provides the translators’ names and phone numbers, and it is up to the two parties to negotiate the fee, if any. (For privacy reasons we do not post the list on our website)
