Bringing the Library To You

Rotary West Readers

Eligibility
The Rotary West Readers van brings library materials to institutions and home day care sites in Racine County that are certified care providers for children aged 5 and under.

Materials include books, learning aids, curriculum guides, book/audiobook sets, music compact discs, CD-ROMs, DVDs, and videotapes.

Delivery Schedule/Number of Items
Service is provided on a 6-week schedule. Home day care sites receive a crate of 25 pre-selected books, and day care institutions may select materials from the van when it visits them. There is no limit on the number of items that an institution may check out.

Storytimes
Day care institutions may schedule four visits per year from the librarians in the Youth Services Department to provide storytimes, and they may participate in the library’s summer reading program.

Contact Rotary West Readers
To inquire about service for your day care institution or home day care site, contact Heidi Fudge, the Rotary West Coordinator, at (262) 636-9714 or heidi.fudge@racinelibrary.info.

The Rotary West Readers van was purchased with grant funds from the federal government, and matching funds from the Racine Rotary West club.

Outreach Collections
The library’s Extension Service provides deposit collections to senior centers in area churches and at the Tyler-Domer, John Bryant and King Neighborhood Centers; the Women’s Resource Center; Love and Charity; the Racine County detention center; the Racine County jail; Racine Youth Corrections; and the Racine Correctional Institution.

Homebound Services

The homebound service is currently full but there is a waiting list available.

Eligibility
Residents of Racine County living east of I-94 who are not able to come to the library. “Homebound” is defined as being generally confined to the residence either temporarily, due to illness or accident, or permanently, due to age, disability or other mobility problems. A certificate of eligibility must be completed and signed by a medical doctor or other professional, other than the applicant’s immediate family, as part of the application for homebound service.

Delivery Schedule/Loan Period
Materials will be delivered once a month. At the time new materials are delivered, the items from the previous delivery will be retrieved and returned to the library. Deliveries will be made Monday - Friday between 10 am and 2 pm.

Fines/Fees
Homebound delivery is free. Overdue fines are not charged on homebound materials, but the library’s standard fee schedule applies for damaged or lost items.

Renewals
There will be no renewals on materials for homebound delivery patrons.

Materials Available for Homebound Delivery
All formats of materials are eligible for homebound delivery, but items in high demand may be excluded. The usual limits of 6 items per AV format will apply. Only materials owned by the Racine Public Library are eligible for home delivery, but requests for purchase will be considered for items that the library does not own. Each delivery will be limited to one bag of materials or approximately 25 – 30 items.
